STORIES WORTH CELEBRATING

College is messy, beautiful, and full of big questions—and you’re right in the middle of it with us.

Because of your support, students are discovering faith, finding purpose, and becoming who God made them to be. Meet the students you’re impacting and see how their lives are being transformed through moments just like these.

Trevor is a senior who has been taking steady steps toward Jesus ever since his freshman year. Over time, he has leaned into community, asked honest questions, and allowed God to shape his life in meaningful ways. This fall, Trevor took a huge step of faith and was baptized—outside, in the middle of a nor’easter. It was a moment none of us will forget and a beautiful picture of God’s work in his life.

He shared, “Sojourn has been the place where I’ve learned how to actually follow Jesus. I wouldn’t have taken this step without the people who walked with me.”

We’ve loved walking with Trevor throughout his journey, and we’ve seen how God is using his story to impact others. Trevor hasn’t kept this to himself—he’s invited his entire friend group to Sojourn because he wants them to experience the same love, truth, and belonging he’s found.

We’re grateful for Trevor’s story and the ripple effect his faith is already having in the lives of others.

MEET TREVOR

📍 RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE

Ben showed up to one of our Conversation Series events, a night where students sit in small groups and talk honestly about big questions. The topic that evening was relationships, from friendship to romance. Ben didn’t say much during the discussion, but you could tell he was listening closely. Afterward, as we were cleaning up, he told us how refreshing it was to be in a space where people could talk openly about life, faith, and what they’re trying to figure out in college.

He shared, “I’ve never been in a group where people talk about God and their lives so honestly — it actually makes me want to ask more questions.”

We told him that what he experienced that night was just the beginning. There are deeper conversations and bigger questions ahead, and he’s welcomed and encouraged to explore all of it with us. Ben smiled and said he couldn’t wait to come back.

Hannah is a freshman who knows her relationship with Jesus matters and is learning what it looks like to live out her faith on a college campus. Being away from her usual community has brought both challenges and opportunities, and she is choosing to lean into that growth.

This fall, Hannah invited a group of students to join her in a student led Bible study. We have loved walking with her as she thinks through how to create space for real conversations and how to care for students who are beginning to explore faith for themselves.

She shared something that captures her heart for this season:

“I know my faith is important to me, and I want to figure out how to live that out here. I want other students to have a place where they can ask real questions too.”

We are excited to see Hannah take these steps with courage and sincerity. God is already using her desire to follow Jesus to help shape a meaningful community on campus, and we cannot wait to see how she continues to grow throughout the year.

MEET HANNAH

📍 RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE

Sam is a sophomore who has been joining us at our faith-based events with a growing sense of curiosity. This year, she heard the story of the Prodigal Son for the first time, and her response surprised all of us.

She remembered being a kid with a set of stuffed animals she loved. “If you have ten and lose one under the bed,” she said, “you’re glad you still have the others. But when you finally find the one that’s missing, you celebrate because that’s the one you were looking for. I think that’s what Jesus is trying to tell us. God wants to celebrate when He finds the ones who are lost.”

Her insight opened a beautiful moment of conversation. We shared that Jesus actually told two other stories just like that—a lost coin and a lost sheep—before the Prodigal Son. When she heard that, her face lit up with excitement and understanding.

Sam would tell you she’s simply exploring big questions about life, meaning, and what she believes. And we love that. Something real is taking shape as she keeps showing up, keeps asking thoughtful questions, and keeps engaging with these stories in an honest way. We’re grateful to walk with her as her journey continues to unfold.

We first met Jenna during her first weeks on campus last year. She quickly found a close group of friends, and together they came to every event to spend more time with their new community.

As the semester went on, their friendships began to shape the campus in beautiful ways. Before an event last October, Jenna came up to us and said,

“We met a new friend who is looking for her people. She’s coming tonight and you’re gonna love her!”

And she was right—we did. Because of Jenna’s care, that friend found her community at Sojourn and began exploring faith.

Jenna’s story reminds us that the first few weeks of college are often the most important for helping students find their people and a place to belong. Those early connections can shape not only a student’s campus experience, but also their faith journey for years to come.

MEET JENNA

📍 RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE

Faith wasn’t talked about in Lizzi’s family—in fact, it was often looked down on. But when she came to a few of our fun events with her boyfriend, something clicked. She eventually joined one of our small groups to explore faith more deeply, and the questions started flowing: What’s this “magic” they keep talking about every week?

We invited Lizzi and her boyfriend to sit down for a conversation about the Gospel and why it matters. When asked what she thought about Christianity, she said:

“Earlier this year, I would have called it delusional, but right now, I’d say I’m curious.”

Lizzi is still on her faith journey, asking honest questions and finding her place in our community—and we love seeing where God is leading her.

MEET LIZZI

We first met Salvatore at a Mario Kart event last year—he won every race and revealed he’s actually a world-ranked player. By November, he started attending small group to explore faith. As a physics and philosophy major, Salvatore asks insightful and challenging questions, often pushing conversations deeper.

In March, after a few invitations, Salvatore finally joined us for coffee, and what started as a quick meet-up turned into a two-hour conversation about God. Throughout the semester, we continued talking about Jesus and God’s Dream for the world. Salvatore once said:

“I don’t believe in God, but I want to live a Christ-like life.”

This fall, Salvatore is heading to grad school at Penn State and hopes to find a community like Sojourn there. While he isn’t ready to fully embrace faith yet, he’s exploring big questions—and we’re excited to see how God continues to work in his life.

We first met Elise, a sophomore at Providence College, on an apple-picking trip with her friend Alyssa—classic New England fall vibes, and Elise fit right in. Already a follower of Jesus, Elise wanted to find a faith community where she could grow and live out her faith on campus.

This spring, we celebrated Elise’s birthday at a big family-style dinner, and in the middle of all the laughter, she said:

“Sojourn has made me feel at home. I’ve never felt so loved and cared for.”

That sense of belonging lit a fire in Elise. Now she’s excited to help her friends experience the same love and joy she’s found and to share God’s love with her peers.

Amelia started coming to Sojourn Somerville last year during a difficult season in her life. Even while juggling school and full-time student teaching, she made Thursday Family Dinners a priority—because, as she says:

“It’s the one place I know I’m going to laugh during the week.”

At first, Amelia kept to herself, but over months of conversations, events, and shared meals, she began to open up about her past and her hopes for the future. One evening, another student asked, “Wait, you’re not Christian, are you?” Amelia paused and said:

“I don’t know… maybe I want to be.”

At our last event of the year, Amelia shared how much Sojourn has meant to her:

“It’s been a long time since I got to have a family dinner at home.”

Through her time with Sojourn, Amelia has discovered a sense of family and a glimpse of unconditional love rooted in Jesus’ sacrifice—and she’s still exploring what it might mean to follow Him.
